Umitron builds an aquaculture data platform aimed at improving farm efficiency and managing environmental risk for sustainable ocean operations. Led by co-founder and managing director Masahiko Yamada, the company is headquartered in Singapore with an R&D HQ in Japan. Its initial product, UmiGarden, launched in June 2017 and provides feeding optimization through fish school analysis. Since August 2018 Umitron has been demonstrating a data service for aquaculture insurance that uses IoT and satellite remote sensing to evaluate and mitigate risks associated with ocean environment and farm operations. The company raised S$3.7M in the latest funding, bringing total investment in this round to S$15.2M, with backers including Mirai Creation Fund operated by SPARX Group. Umitron combines IoT, satellite remote sensing and data analytics to support farm efficiency and environmental risk management in aquaculture.
