The company leverages seed genetics (germplasm) from vegetable crops to develop new seed varieties paired with agronomic advice tailored for the unique indoor environment of vertical farms. Unfold aims to support hyperlocal production of vegetables while addressing the need for a reliable, safe supply of sustainably grown produce. The company launched with USD$30M in initial funding provided via a joint investment by Leaps by Bayer and Temasek. Led by CEO John Purcell, Unfold will be a U.S. entity headquartered in the Davis, Calif. area. It will maintain commercial and research and development operations in both California and Singapore.
