Unlikely AI, founded in 2018 by William Tunstall-Pedoe and headquartered in London, develops ambitious and novel AI products such as Crossword Genius. The Crossword Genius app features an AI called Ross that can solve and explain difficult cryptic clues and uses machine vision to read puzzles from newspapers via a smartphone camera. The company aims to advance the state of the art in artificial intelligence and build products that do things previously considered impossible for computers. The recent financing will be used to accelerate development of its approach to AI and to expand the team. Unlikely AI previously completed a £1.1m angel-only round in October 2020 in which 26 angels participated and 19 of them followed into the current round. The company operates as Unlikely Artificial Intelligence Limited and promotes on-device capabilities for its products.
