Upcycled Plant Power (UPP) Limited
Agri-Tech Centre Poultry Drive, Edgmond, Newport, Newport, TF10 8JZ, United Kingdom
Overview
Founded in 2022, Upcycled Plant Power (UPP) uses its ISO-9001 certified Harvesta robotic harvester, computer vision and machine-learning systems to collect both market-ready broccoli heads and the remaining stalks, leaves and stems. These by-products are immediately processed in modular, on-farm units to create the company’s patented Prota™ protein and Fiba™ fibre ingredient lines, which can replace soy, pea, wheat and even meat protein at up to 20% inclusion in products such as breads, pasta, burgers and soups without affecting taste or mouthfeel. By converting roughly 70% of each broccoli plant that would otherwise be discarded, UPP addresses food waste, allergen concerns and carbon emissions for food manufacturers while providing farmers with an additional revenue stream through multi-year harvester-rental contracts. The company’s technology positions it uniquely against emerging upcycling competitors like Fooditive by tightly integrating harvest automation with ingredient production. To date, UPP has secured £3.5 million in funding, enabling it to accelerate commercial launches of its ingredient lines and scale robotic harvesting deployments. Future plans include extending the platform to other high-waste crops to further reshape the agricultural supply chain toward sustainability.
