Vermut
Paris Street 206 Mezzanine A, Barcelona, Catalonia, 08008, Spain
Overview
Founded in Barcelona in 2020 by Fernando Dellepiane and Enric Duran, Vermut offers an intuitive digital platform that lets older people create profiles, sign up for activities, and meet like-minded peers. The app features a marketplace of social activities — from vermuts and excursions to zumba classes — designed to reduce isolation and foster authentic connections. The product is built with senior usability in mind to minimize technical barriers and encourage daily engagement. In 2022 more than 16k registered users opened the app at least once a day and over 50k connections were made on the platform. Vermut began in Spain and now operates growing hubs in Madrid and Barcelona while planning a major expansion into North America. The company has participated in accelerator programmes (Traction de Lanzadera and Birdhouse) and previously raised an initial €150k round and backing from business angels. Vermut operates a marketplace of leisure activities, training and entertainment combined with a social network designed specifically for seniors, with tailored content and usability. The company was founded in June 2020 by three former Glovo employees and is based in Barcelona. In its first ten months it reported rapid growth, recording over 90,000 visits and more than 500 active users. The startup began with an initial €10,000 investment from the two founding partners and added three new investors in October. Vermut was selected from more than 1,100 applicants for Lanzadera’s Traction program in December. The founders cite COVID‑19–related social isolation among seniors as the problem they aim to address and frame their mission around changing perceptions of aging.
