Overview
Via Nova Therapeutics is an Oakland, Calif.-based company established to discover and develop therapeutics for acute and subacute viral infections. Founded by virologists Don Ganem, MD, and Kelly Wong, PhD, the company in-licensed four preclinical antiviral programs from Novartis. Its programs target fundamental mechanisms of viral replication and aim to produce therapies for respiratory viruses including influenza, adenoviruses and rhinoviruses, as well as human polyomaviruses that cause severe disease in immunocompromised hosts. The focus on core replication mechanisms also positions the company to support discovery of therapeutics for other viral infections. Via Nova closed a $20 million Series A financing. The company will use the funds to advance the four in-licensed preclinical programs toward further development.
