ViraTherapeutics develops oncolytic cancer vaccines built on a chimeric VSV platform, VSV-GP. VSV-GP carries the surface protein from lymphocytic choriomeningitis virus (LCMV) and, due to this pseudo-typing, may be administered systemically on a repeated basis without inactivation by the patient’s immune system. The company intends to use recent financing to advance its lead product VSV-GP through pre-clinical studies prior to clinical Phase 1b testing to demonstrate early clinical proof of concept. ViraTherapeutics expects to start its first clinical trials with VSV-GP in cancer patients in 2017. Financially, the company completed a first closing of a Series A for €3.6m and was recently awarded €1.6m from Research Studio Austria and the aws Seedfinancing programme.
