Overview
Virtuagym is an Amsterdam-based fitness technology provider that offers a brandable platform and mobile apps for club management, coaching and member engagement. Founded in 2008 by brothers Hugo and Paul Braam, the company serves more than 9,000 fitness businesses and 45,000 fitness professionals. Its platform reaches over 2.5 million end-users every month. The company says its all-in-one software supports a shift to hybrid, digitally powered customer experiences. Virtuagym raised €3 million from Icecat to drive international growth and to boost its product offering. Leadership frames the funding as a step toward further health-technology innovations to make the world healthier and happier. Virtuagym offers a complete fitness software ecosystem with integrated mobile apps for exercise and nutrition guidance, progress tracking, online coaching, member and staff management, scheduling, online sign-up, payments, and access control. The platform includes numerous partner connections to enable clients to connect their entire business to the system. The company supports more than 11 million consumers, over 4,500 health clubs and 25,000+ trainers worldwide and employs over 200 people in Amsterdam and Medellín. Founded by brothers Paul and Hugo Braam, Virtuagym serves customers including Basic-Fit, Xercise4Less, various YMCA locations, and XSport. The company closed a €6m Series B financing to fund development of new innovations and to strengthen its market position. It plans to accelerate expansion in Europe and the Americas and enter new verticals such as yoga, martial arts and dance studios. Virtuagym develops fitness apps for consumers alongside a cloud-based, all-in-one solution for fitness providers that includes booking, billing and member management. The company also offers standalone consumer apps such as Virtuagym Food, which competes with MyFitnessPal, and a robust exercise coaching system. Its dual B2C and B2B approach lets consumer traction feed product offerings for business clients. Virtuagym says its app and cloud software have been used by over 7 million consumers and 1,800 businesses. The company aims to drive behavioural change with smart feedback and to become the electronic health record of the fitness industry. It partners with large industry players including Life Fitness, Matrix and Keiser.
