Overview

VocalIQ is a Cambridge, UK-based spin-out from the University of Cambridge’s Dialogue Systems Group that develops proprietary software to improve dialogue interactions in voice-activated systems. The company focuses on spoken-dialogue technology for applications across automotive, education and retail, and is building a prototype for one of the world’s largest car manufacturers. Led by Chairman Steve Young and CEO Blaise Thomson, VocalIQ intends to use its seed funding to expand the team and develop specific applications for testing. The company raised £750k in seed funding led by Amadeus Capital Partners via the Amadeus IV Early Stage Fund, with participation from Cambridge Enterprise. In conjunction with the funding, Hermann Hauser will join the Amadeus Fund on VocalIQ’s board. The broader voice-recognition market was valued at $53bn in 2012 and forecast to reach $113bn by 2017, underscoring demand for VocalIQ’s spoken-dialogue offerings.
