Vodio is an iPad app that surfaces personalized video recommendations by combining social signals with user-configured interests and curated content sources. Users set broad categories and drill into subcategories, and can customize which content sources and channels to include. The interface uses horizontal swipes to move between channels and vertical scrolling to browse videos; supported players include YouTube, Vimeo, AOL Video, Facebook Video and Dailymotion. Content is drawn from TV shows, networks, comedy sites like College Humor, NASA, newspapers, newswires, movie trailers, music videos, blogs and other publishers. The app exhibits some usability issues (notably unintuitive channel checkbox behavior) that the company says it is addressing. Vodio is working on simplifying channel setup and personalization, adding video-driven features such as HD support, and partnering with premium content players; the app is available as a free download on iTunes.
