Overview
Volley is an AI startup that has developed a knowledge engine to generate, synthesize, and recommend personalized content for learning and enterprise knowledge management. The platform ingests and integrates unstructured information to automatically create micro-learning content and personalized learning resources. Volley says its technology can cut the cost of generating, organizing, and delivering key knowledge by up to 50%. The company serves customers throughout Fortune 100 financial services and has been identified as a top AI innovator for learning by Harvard Business Review. Volley is a partner of the UC Santa Cruz Center for Excellence in Data Science Research. Its core team, drawn from Google, the U.S. intelligence community, Carnegie Mellon, and top Wall Street tech divisions, is headquartered in San Francisco with a satellite office in Austin. Following the recent financing, Volley plans to expand its AI team, accelerate technical capabilities, and broaden delivery of its commercial platform to additional leading banks and Fortune 500 firms. Volley is an education startup whose app lets students point their phone camera at textbook pages or homework and instantly surface resources, prerequisites, and links to relevant online class snippets or study guides. It uses machine learning and natural language processing to automatically analyze text and imagery and map concepts via a proprietary “Concept Graph.” The app can point students to Khan Academy chunks, Wikipedia articles, and obscure reference PDFs uploaded by teachers that are otherwise hard to find. Volley spent the past year in stealth and its first learning product is now in private alpha. The team includes CEO Zaid Rahman, Carson Kahn, Ryan Orbuch, and Adam Ashwal. Volley plans additional tools for students, teachers, and school systems and intends to keep the product free for students while monetizing textbook makers, education service providers, and school networks.
