Overview

Vue Storefront is a Frontend-as-a-Service platform delivering custom storefronts for online retailers and merchants. The company is based in San Francisco, CA and Warsaw, Poland and is led by co-founder and CEO Patrick Friday with an executive team including CTO Tim Drijvers, CRO Gordana Vuckovic, COO Bart Roszkowski and CDXO Filip Rakowski. Vue Storefront is used by over 2,200 retailers and merchants globally and has scaled to more than 100 people across 10 countries. In the past 12 months it added customers including Berlin Brand Group, Zenith Watches and Zadig & Voltaire. The company raised $20M in equity to continue its growth trajectory, scale teams and product, and expand internationally. Vue Storefront offers a frontend layer for headless commerce that integrates e-commerce platforms with third-party services (CMS, personalization, etc.) and agencies. The product has significant developer traction on GitHub and is positioned as a leading e-commerce frontend framework. It currently has integrations with Magento and BigCommerce and partnerships with vendors including commercetools, SAP, Salesforce and BigCommerce, plus agencies such as EPAM, Valtech, and E2X. The company plans to scale up and expand deeper into the SMB sector while continuing to build connections to additional backend players. Management says the goal is to become the de facto front end for headless commerce, marrying technical and business needs in omnichannel retail. The Series A raise will be used to support that growth and product expansion. Vue Storefront builds a platform-agnostic, headless progressive web application frontend that lets merchants visually refresh online stores without backend changes. The company offers a cloud enterprise product (starting at €15,000/year) alongside an open-source offering. It plans a major Q1 2021 update adding new middleware and out-of-the-box integrations with backends (commercetools), CMSs (Contentstack, Storyblok, Contentful, Amplience), payment providers (Adyen, Checkout.com) and search engines (Algolia, Constructor). Vue Storefront began as an R&D open-source project in 2017 and saw a 300% increase in usage in 2020, reaching about 40,000 monthly downloads. The solution has over 250 deployments (200 added in 2020) and works with 100+ partner agencies; the United States is currently its biggest market. The company recently secured $1.5 million USD and intends to invest those proceeds into further developing its cloud-based frontend.
