Overview
Vyatta offers enterprise-focused network routing, security, and traffic management software that enables enterprises to segment and secure virtualized environments. Its software leverages Intel and AMD hardware and runs in VMware, Xen, and Hyper‑V virtual environments. The company says its offering allows the network to provide the same elasticity and mobility as the application infrastructure it supports. Vyatta was founded in 2005. The company recently raised $12 million in new funding, bringing total funding to more than $45 million. Vyatta intends to use the new capital to scale its sales and engineering efforts. Vyatta builds open-source network software and packages it into routers, switches, firewall devices and VPN boxes. The company positions itself as an alternative to Cisco, using the tagline “The Open-Source Alternative to Cisco.” Vyatta first launched in 2006 and is based in Belmost, Calif. Its routers have been reported to help enterprises significantly cut networking costs. Financially, Vyatta has just raised nearly all of a planned $10.3 million equity round and previously brought in $11 million two years earlier. The company continues to sell both software and hardware networking products while expanding its customer adoption through cost-saving positioning.
