Wooplr was founded in 2013 by four former McAfee employees: Arjun Zacharia, Praveen Rajaretnam, Soumen Sarkar and Ankit Sabharwal. It claims to have 3 million women on its platform and aims to reach 100 million women users in India by 2020, while targeting $100 million gross merchandise value by 2018. The company has previously raised a $5 million Series A from Helion Ventures and an undisclosed round in March from InMobi founders and several executives. Wooplr is a mobile-focused fashion discovery platform that lets users post outfit photos which are surfaced to others along with details of where to buy items online or at nearby offline outlets. The company operates Android, Windows Phone and iOS apps (with a desktop site) and said it has around 100,000 registered users, of whom 80% of active users are women. The platform includes products from more than 1,600 retailers and has trialed monetization by offering selected partners a $10 'store-front'. Wooplr plans to expand its team (from 25 toward ~100), scale across India, pursue additional monetization initiatives, and ultimately move into payments to capture transactions.
