WorldDesk is a Northern Irish–founded, Menlo Park, California–based desktop virtualization startup that uses virtualization technology to let users take their files, apps and Windows desktop profiles from one PC to another. It offers a free consumer product, 'WorldDesk for You', which has received a significant UI and performance overhaul and added support for Chrome, Skype (voice and video) and the Kindle e‑Reader. The platform enables users to store and carry their virtual desktop, apps and files via USB drives or smartphones/iPods in mass storage mode, and also supports cloud access through integrations with Dropbox and Box. In addition to the consumer offering, the company sells a paid 'WorldDesk for Enterprise' product with added features to support and manage enterprise desktop virtualization deployments. WorldDesk said it raised an additional $1.25M in new funding and will use the capital to bolster engineering and sales in Europe and the Asia‑Pacific region. The company did not disclose the total amount of funding raised to date.
