Xefco develops a water-free fabric dyeing system called Ausora that uses chemical vapour deposition and plasma to apply ultra-thin colour coatings and functional finishes at room temperature. The Ausora unit is shipping-container-sized and is capable of processing about 2.2 million litres of fabric per year, and the company claims the process uses 97% less chemicals and 90% less energy than traditional dyeing. Xefco says it has 12 units already commercially committed and a pipeline that exceeds its current manufacturing capacity, and it plans to deploy the first commercial-scale unit to a fabric partner in Indonesia with shipment in June and operations expected in the second half of 2026. Founded in 2018 by Tom Hussey and Brian Conolly and based in Geelong, the company raised a $10.5 million seed round extension in 2024 led by Main Sequence with participation from Breakthrough Victoria, Virescent Ventures, Investible and Voyagers Climate-Tech Fund. Xefco is using grant funding from the IGP to scale Geelong manufacturing and intends to seek additional funding through 2026, leveraging the Indonesian deployment as a commercial proof of concept.
