Xiaozhu.com is a Beijing-based peer-to-peer home-sharing marketplace founded in 2012 by CEO Chen Chi. The platform connects hosts and guests through its listings and reports over 500,000 listings in more than 650 destinations worldwide. Xiaozhu has pursued international growth through a global strategic partnership with Agoda and a partnership with Alibaba’s travel brand Fliggy to expand its network, share properties and promote post-pay services. It has also worked with Ant Financial to promote facial recognition smart door locks and plans to develop a smart home IoT system. The company said it will use new capital to expand its global network and build the smart home IoT capabilities. Financially, Xiaozhu previously closed a $120m financing in November 2017 and is continuing to raise sizable funding to support expansion. Xiaozhu.com operates a house-sharing marketplace in China and abroad, positioning itself as Airbnb’s top local rival. Founded in 2012 and led by CEO Kelvin Chen Chi, the company now lists properties in over 400 destinations in and outside of China. Xiaozhu has built an integrated service system that includes cleaning and photography services and claims the largest market share in China’s house-sharing market. In November 2017 the company announced a $120 million financing round led by Yunfeng Capital with participation from existing investors. The company said the funds will be used to introduce technologies to further enhance the security of house-sharing and to build a sustainable platform ecosystem. The press release characterized Xiaozhu as having become a unicorn after the round and noted rapid growth since its prior 2016 fundraising. The service covers 200 cities and the company maintains 20 offices in the country. Xiaozhu has a tie-in with Alibaba to use Sesame Credit data for enhanced user authentication to help combat fraud. The company plans to use the new funding for new hires, R&D and general scaling of its business. Xiaozhu competes in a crowded market that includes Airbnb, Tujia, Mayi, Zhuwona and Youtianxia. After the round the company was valued at over $300 million. Xiaozhu operates a domestic online professional booking website for daily rentals and short-term rooms. The company provides short-term home-rental services across China and maintains offices to support local operations. It intends to use new funding to hire staff and expand its R&D and marketing efforts. Xiaozhu raised $15M in a Series B financing to support growth and product development. The company was founded by Chen Chi and Wang Liantao and is based in Beijing. Xiaozhu has offices in 13 cities and its service covers more than 130 cities across China.
