Yahaha
Kluuvikatu 6, Helsinki, Southern Finland, 00101, Finland
Overview
Yahaha is a user-generated, low-code immersive gaming platform built by a team of former Unity engineers. The platform aims to let non-technical creators build games and virtual experiences with heavy lifting handled behind the scenes, reportedly built in partnership with Unity. In early alpha the company attracted more than 100,000 creators and hundreds of thousands of players, and it now has over 150 employees with offices in Helsinki, Seoul and Shanghai. Yahaha has raised $90M to date, including a recent $40M Series A+ extension, and is using capital to develop monetization features and social hooks. Planned product work includes monetization modules, community investment, brand partnerships, and capabilities around game development and 3D asset creation, alongside hiring and business development. The company faces questions around creator retention and monetization effectiveness, as well as moderation and data‑hosting/regulatory issues affecting firms connected to China. Yahaha Studios is building a no-code "metaverse for games" platform that lets creators build immersive games and related communities combining virtual and real-world elements. The company is based in Espoo, Finland, with R&D in Shanghai, and was founded by former Unity engineers Chris Zhu (CEO), Pengfei Zhang (COO) and Hao Min (CTO). Yahaha has not yet launched a commercial product but has been running an early Discord community of about 220 users and plans an alpha release in Q2 ahead of a full launch later this year. The platform was built in partnership with Unity to help onboard creators and enable cross-platform gameplay. Financially, the company disclosed $50 million raised across three rounds in 2020 and says it is valued in the range of $300 million to $500 million. Yahaha has stated it does not plan to raise additional funding ahead of its upcoming launch.
