Overview

Yoto builds the Yoto Player, a screen-free audio device for children aged roughly three to 12 that plays stories, podcasts and music via physical audio cards and Bluetooth. The device is designed without a camera, microphone or adverts and includes a basic colour-changing pixel display and up to 24 hours of play on a single charge. An accompanying app provides bedtime/wake routines, sleep timers and family features. Yoto’s platform combines original content and licensed or co-created audio from partners such as PRH, Macmillan, Sony, Disney, Roald Dahl Story Company, HarperCollins, Hachette, Viacom, Bonnier and Scholastic. The company has released exclusive content (for example, Paul McCartney made two songs available exclusively on the player) and emphasizes Montessori-inspired, screen-free use. Yoto was founded in 2017 by Ben Drury and Filip Denker. Yoto provides an audio platform for children built around the Yoto Player, a physical device controlled with insertable cards that trigger audio content. The company offers original content and licensed/co-created audio with partners including LEGO, Disney/Pixar, PRH, Macmillan, Sony, Roald Dahl Story Company, HarperCollins, Hachette, Bonnier and Scholastic. Content spans stories, music, educational activities, podcasts, radio and sound effects; the second-generation Yoto Player launched in 2020 and was designed with Montessori principles. Co-founded by Ben Drury and Filip Denker, Yoto previously sold out its first-generation player in August 2019 and raised funds to develop the new player with design agency Pentagram. The company raised a $17M Series A and intends to use the proceeds to continue growing across Europe and North America.
