Zed is a code editor and collaboration platform designed to make editing and team interactions first-class, offering multiplayer editing, high performance, and a streamlined, minimalist interface. The product lets teammates join projects and edit as if code were local, call contacts from a built-in panel, jump to a collaborator’s location, and use an integrated screen-sharing tool. The team behind Zed includes ex-Atom contributors Nathan Sobo, Antonio Scandurra and Max Brunsfeld, and they launched Zed Industries in spring 2021. The company is currently pre-revenue, operating a beta with roughly 800 weekly active users from an alpha and a waiting list that reached about 12,000 people. Zed has seven employees and plans to monetize primarily via a service-based model. The founders aim for Zed to become a standard platform for open-source development and the go-to tool for software teams.
