Overview

Zepl is a collaboration platform built for data analytics and data science teams by the creators of Apache Zeppelin. The platform supports Python, Scala, R and SQL and enables teams to execute, share and co-create data analysis in a single environment. Zepl released an enterprise version for private cloud deployment that offers multi-language notebook execution, collaboration across teams, and sharing with fine-grained access control. The enterprise platform was developed in close collaboration with early adopters including Samsung Electronics, University of Colorado, and one of the largest pharmaceutical companies in the world. The company has offices in Mountain View, California and Seoul, South Korea. Led by CEO and co-founder Sejun Ra, Zepl raised $5M in funding from SoftBank Ventures Korea and counts Vertex Ventures, Big Basin Capital and others among its investors. The company intends to use the funds to scale operations across its U.S. and Asia offices. ZEPL (formerly NFLabs) is run by the creators of the Apache Zeppelin project and offers a web-based notebook that enables interactive data analytics for data engineers, data scientists, and business analysts. Its platform supports Spark, Cassandra, MongoDB, ElasticSearch and standard relational databases via JDBC, and is integrated with Amazon AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Dataproc and major Hadoop distributions. Apache Zeppelin is positioned as a pluggable, open-source interface to break down data, skill, and team silos across analytics workflows. The project has been adopted by hundreds of companies across verticals from finance to high-tech. ZEPL says it will expand the Apache Zeppelin experience into a single platform for end-to-end data analytics workflows. The company announced a fresh brand and a $4.1M Series A to accelerate innovation and broader enterprise adoption.
