Overview
Founded in 2020 by Neha Jain, Pune-based Zerocircle is a materials-science startup creating seaweed-based films, coatings and packaging intended to replace petrochemical plastics. Its current product line covers coated hamburger boxes, fried-food containers, bakery packaging and food trays, all designed to eliminate toxic plastics and microplastic leakage. The company targets high-volume segments—such as QSR packaging, coated paper and board, beverage cups and grease-resistant wraps—where traditional polyethylene and PLA face regulatory or performance limits. Zerocircle plans to launch new barrier-coating SKUs, including water-resistant paperboard, heat-sealable coatings for hospitality cutlery pouches, and low-GSM coated papers for wraps and liners. To date, the firm reports replacing roughly 1.6 million plastic food containers in India, the Netherlands and the Benelux region. It is positioning itself for expansion in markets with accelerating plastic-free mandates, including Europe, the UK, Oceania and India. Cumulatively, the company has secured Rs 25 crore (about US$3 million) in venture funding to fuel deep-tech R&D and scale-up efforts.
