Overview
ZeroRISC builds production-grade, OpenTitan-based silicon security designs and an Integrity Management Platform (IMP) that decouples device security from place of manufacture. Its platform is designed for integration into SoCs, chiplets, and devices across IoT to datacenter strata, enabling software-based ownership and control. The company emphasizes transparent, verifiable silicon to replace opaque hardware ‘black boxes’ and to give device owners policy control over permitted software. ZeroRISC was founded in April 2023 by Dominic Rizzo (the OpenTitan project founder) and is headquartered in Boston, MA. In February 2024 it introduced the first commercially produced OpenTitan-based chip manufactured by Nuvoton, and it is offering an early access program for the first silicon and future collaborations. ZeroRISC recently closed an oversubscribed $10 million seed round to accelerate commercial adoption and expand production and go-to-market efforts. zeroRISC offers a cloud security service for silicon built on the OpenTitan open-source silicon root of trust, delivering transparent, trustworthy device management below the operating system. The platform is presented as an all-in-one, drop-in silicon, software and services solution that enables secure ownership transfer and secure-by-default device management. The company plans open-source development of production-quality discrete and integrated roots of trust (RoTs), a proprietary integration kit for integrated RoTs, a secure embedded operating system, and proprietary cloud-based services that tie into the secure OS and silicon designs. Its first discrete open-market chip is hardened against physical attacks, supports post-quantum secure boot, and was designed to meet commercially relevant certification guidelines. The team consists of original OpenTitan project members from Google, led by founder and CEO Dominic Rizzo, and is working with commercial integration partners including Nuvoton. zeroRISC launched in April 2023 and announced its formal market debut with seed funding.
