Overview
Zound Industries designs and sells music-oriented consumer electronics and audio accessories under brands including Urbanears, Marshall Headphones, Coloud and Molami. The company is based in Stockholm with offices in New York and Shenzhen and sells products in over 20,000 stores across 95 markets. Zound reported its most successful year in 2014, with an upturn of almost 70% from the previous year, and received the Supergasell award in December 2013 for rapid growth. Management structured the company for further growth and continued profitability and pursued new product launches throughout the summer and fall, including a pivot into a music-dedicated smartphone. Zound recently partnered with Swedish telecom operator TeliaSonera as part of its expansion efforts. Founders Konrad Bergström and Kenneth Schönborg remain among the largest shareholders alongside Varenne Investment and TeliaSonera. Zound Industries develops and markets electronic audio accessories and related fashion cases under brands including Urbanears, Marshall, Coloud and Molami. The company sells in-ear and on-ear headphones, loudspeakers and mobile-device cases. Zound has seen strong growth in recent years. It entered a strategic partnership with Nordic operator TeliaSonera that includes a marketing agreement and a $4.5 million purchase of a 7% stake. The marketing deal is intended to enable bundling of Zound's products with TeliaSonera mobile subscriptions and gives Telia access to Zound's network of designers, brands and artists. Zound expects the partnership to increase its growth rate.
