Zymvol aims to make enzymes accessible to companies seeking more efficient products and more sustainable processes, including reducing toxic waste through enzyme customization. The 28-person team is led by Dr. Maria Fatima Lucas, who has over 20 years of experience in protein science and computational chemistry; the company was founded in 2017. Recent financing is intended to grow the team, develop its new laboratory, scale production and validate the performance of its biomelanin. Zymvol uses computer simulations to discover and develop industrial enzymes. Its core product is a platform that models challenging factory-floor environments to engineer enzymes that tolerate pressure and temperature variations. The company says its simulations can achieve results in roughly half the time and at lower cost than traditional lab engineering. Zymvol also claims the approach can identify enzymes for a target reaction without prior knowledge, enabling serendipitous discoveries. Target markets include pharma, chemical and food industries and consumer products such as detergents, where enzymes can replace less sustainable catalysts and improve product properties. To accelerate discovery and development of new industrial enzymes, Zymvol raised €1.3 million in seed funding from Elaia Partners.
