- SpotSense
Participated · Grant · Jan 2026
SpotSense is a diagnostics startup building quantitative, multi-sample lateral-flow assays paired with an image-based reader that works reliably outside controlled laboratory settings. The company’s first application targets painless saliva-based detection of neonatal sepsis, and its redesigned strip architecture and analytics software enable accurate measurements from low-volume, variable samples. Beyond neonatal care, SpotSense is preparing an at-home self-testing device capable of analysing more than 30 health parameters. To date, founder Amrita Sukrity has bootstrapped ₹15 lakh and secured a ₹5 lakh Venture Center grant and a ₹50 lakh BIRAC grant. The company later raised ₹1.3 crore from a strategic investor (who also became a customer) and ₹1.5 crore from India Accelerator. SpotSense has generated roughly ₹3 crore in revenue, though it remains loss-making, and currently outsources kit manufacturing. The team now seeks ₹5 crore to fund R&D, clinical studies, and to set up in-house production as it moves toward commercial launch in clinics and homes.

- Capillary Biomedical
Participated · Seed · Aug 2018
Capillary Biomedical, headquartered in Irvine, California, develops the SteadiSet infusion set powered by its SteadiFlow technology to simplify and improve insulin pump therapy for people with Type 1 diabetes. The SteadiFlow platform features a soft, flexible cannula with multiple holes to reduce kinking, tissue damage, and inflammation, plus an integrated one-handed inserter. The SteadiSet is designed with materials selected for insulin stability and an adhesive optimized for extended wear to increase comfort, reliability, and predictability of insulin absorption. CapBio is pursuing extended-wear use of infusion sets for seven days and beyond and is conducting clinical studies to validate that performance. The company’s core cannula technology was developed with Professor Jeffrey Joseph and supported by the NIH and the JDRF T1D Fund. CapBio has previously raised over $10 million from organized angel investment groups and is advancing clinical trials to support broader adoption. Capillary Biomedical is developing the SteadiSet infusion set featuring SteadiFlow technology, a patented helical cannula design and a patent-pending helical inserter intended to reduce infusion set failures and insulin absorption variability. The company says the design is kink‑proof and combines advantages of steel needles and Teflon cannulas to improve comfort and reliability for pump users. Research specific to SteadiFlow was presented at the American Diabetes Association Scientific Sessions, and the core cannula work was developed at the Jefferson Artificial Pancreas Center with NIH and JDRF grant support. CapBio has assembled a veteran diabetes‑technology team, developed a minimal viable product, and filed multiple patent applications. Headquarters are in Irvine, California. The company plans clinical studies to support an initial 510(k) filing and preparation for a commercial launch in 2019; funds from the recent financing will support those activities.

- Influential
Participated · Series A · Jul 2016
Influential builds social intelligence and activation tools that leverage AI (it is a developer partner with IBM Watson) to help brands and marketers find and activate influencers. Its Talent Pro product gives agencies like WME access to social data on a broader pool of talent, enabling deals that surround A-list celebrities with lookalike influencers. The company also offers a social intelligence product for competitive and audience insights and is working to map paid influencer posts to real-world consumer actions. Influential announced a $12 million Series B that included WME and existing investors Capital Zed, ECA Ventures, Paradigm Talent Agency, ROAR and Tech Coast Angels. With this round the company has now raised a total of $26.5 million. CEO Ryan Detert positions influencer marketing as one tactic within a broader social intelligence and activation offering aimed at both agencies and brands. Influential is a technology platform and social media influencer network powered by the cognitive computing capabilities of IBM Watson. The platform works with more than 7,000 top influencers across Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, Twitter, Vine and YouTube, representing more than 4.4 billion followers. Influencers are activated via a patent-pending app to run brand campaigns and create targeted conversations using age, gender, interests, ethnicity and more than 60,000 data points. The company plans to use the $5M Series A to ramp up hires and allocate resources toward developers, data scientists and data partners. The round was led by Capital Zed and included participation from Roar, Paradigm Talent Agency, Europlay Capital Advisors, MSMCi, Ace Fund and several angel investors. Brands post offers with messaging, legal requirements, and deliverable parameters; Influential selects 20–100 influencers to respond and collects submissions via APIs. The company bills itself as “100 percent brand-safe” because brands directly convey requirements and receive final submissions. Influential enforces a minimum brand spend of $50,000 for engagements and compares its model to competitors that act more like agencies or use different pricing approaches. CEO and cofounder Ryan Detert and cofounder/COO Dan Steele built the platform from Detert’s own influencer background. The new funding will be used for further platform development and sales efforts, and the company is undertaking a new round on FlashFunders.
