Overview
Airtm is an e-wallet connected to over 300 bank and e-money systems via a peer-to-peer network and direct bank connections. Users hold their money as dollars or cryptocurrency, and can send and receive funds domestically and internationally. Airtm was founded in 2015 with the goal of leveraging digital money to help people in the developing world suffering from currency devaluation preserve their wealth and free their money from disconnected money networks. Checker provides a single-API network that gives regulated financial institutions access to stablecoin liquidity, fiat on- and off-ramps, payment rails, and tools for trading, payments, treasury, and credit. Over the past year its initial stablecoin liquidity product scaled from $0 to $3B in total processing volume across about 30 institutional customers, including Rail, Braza Bank, and Belo. The platform processes roughly 1% of annual global B2B stablecoin payments volume and supports 75 global currencies for FX, collections, payouts, named accounts, and trading. Checker emphasizes reducing fragmentation by orchestration of liquidity and compliance across markets so institutions do not need to integrate multiple providers. With the new funding the company plans to expand global payments coverage to reduce correspondent banking dependencies, add embedded borrowing and lending to lower pre-funding needs, and deploy AI-powered agents for treasury and back-office automation. The company is backed by leading investors and strategic financial partners including Galaxy Ventures, Al Mada Ventures, Framework, Bitso, and Airtm.
