NuCana is an Edinburgh, UK-based clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company developing anti-cancer medicines using the ProTide technology. The company has exclusive worldwide rights to the ProTide technology in cancer and is led by CEO and co-founder Hugh S. Griffith. Its lead product, Acelarin, has shown results in patients with cancers resistant to conventional therapies and will be developed initially for pancreatic, biliary, lung and ovarian cancers. NuCana plans to expand the clinical program for Acelarin and to bring a second ProTide, NUC-3373, into the clinic later this year, with two further ProTides scheduled for 2015. Financially, the company completed a $57M Series B financing to fund these development plans. Board changes accompanying the financing include James Healy and Gerald Chan of Morningside Ventures joining the board.
