  • Cognoptix

    Led · Series D · Sep 2014

Cognoptix is a healthcare company focused on the early detection of Alzheimer’s disease through its Sapphire II diagnostic platform. The system pairs a fluorescent laser eye-scanning device with a topically applied β-amyloid-specific eye ointment, allowing clinicians to identify amyloid deposits in the ocular lens long before symptoms appear. Since early 2019, veteran biotech executive Dr. Susanne Wilke has led a full corporate revitalization, bringing in new C-suite talent, a world-class scientific advisory board, and an overhauled board of directors. Sapphire II is currently in late-stage development, and the company is preparing pivotal clinical trials and regulatory submissions to the FDA. Cognoptix positions the test as a companion diagnostic for forthcoming disease-modifying Alzheimer’s therapies targeting amyloid removal. Financially, all previous investments have been converted into Series R or common stock, simplifying the cap table and clearing the way for future rounds. The recent funding round provides the capital needed to advance clinical, regulatory, and commercial plans for the platform.

  • Provenance Biopharmaceuticals

    Led · Equity · Dec 2011

Provenance Biopharmaceuticals is a Waltham, MA-based clinical-stage biotechnology company developing novel therapeutics for cancer and other serious, life-threatening diseases. Its lead molecule, DI-Leu16-IL2, is an immunocytokine developed using technology invented by founder, president and CEO Stephen D. Gillies, Ph.D.; that technology was previously licensed to Merck Serono. DI-Leu16-IL2 is currently in an investigator-sponsored Phase I clinical trial for non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma and other hematological cancers. To advance development, Provenance closed an $8M financing with Alopexx Enterprises and the companies formed Alopexx Oncology, LLC to manage the clinical program. Alopexx Enterprises, founded in 2011, focuses on acquiring and developing preclinical and early clinical compounds with emphasis on infectious diseases, oncology and CNS.
