- NetBeez
Participated · Seed · Jan 2016
NetBeez delivers a network performance monitoring solution that continuously simulates user connectivity across wired and wireless networks using dedicated sensors called Beez. The Beez sensors emulate end users to proactively identify and troubleshoot complex network issues and reduce IT time to resolution. The company intends to use its new funding to expand its team, accelerate customer acquisition, and further develop its product. NetBeez participated in Y Combinator (Winter 2016) and has previously received investments from Innovation Works and Carnegie Mellon University. Founded in 2013 and based in Pittsburgh, PA, NetBeez focuses on scaling its customer base and product capabilities. The amount of the recent funding was not disclosed. NetBeez builds a network monitoring platform that uses low-cost hardware sensors and virtual agents (including Raspberry Pi) to simulate real users and detect performance issues across wired and wireless networks, data centers, and cloud providers like AWS, Google Cloud, and Azure. The system displays measurements on a browser-based dashboard to help engineers and DevOps proactively triage outages and reduce reliance on command-line troubleshooting. The company, founded in April 2013 by Stefano Gridelli, Panickos Neophytou, and Panos Vouzis, targets customers in higher education, financial services, healthcare, and retail; its existing customers average about 30 remote offices. NetBeez has launched a free tier aimed at smaller network administrators and DevOps teams with fewer than five locations while continuing to sell annual subscriptions starting at $3,600 for up to five hardware or virtual agents. The product emphasizes both wired and wireless client-perspective monitoring to detect issues caused by environmental wireless interference. The company recently raised funding which it plans to use to broaden user outreach and improve the product. NetBeez deploys hundreds of low‑cost Raspberry Pi devices running its Beez software behind switches to simulate user activity and proactively detect connectivity problems that traditional router/switch monitoring misses. The system validates network changes and alerts engineers to outages before end users report them, aiming to reduce downtime after off‑hour configuration changes. NetBeez targets medium and large companies with complex, distributed networks and has run a beta since May with three demo customers in Pennsylvania and West Virginia. The founders, Panagiotis Vouzis and Stefano Gridelli, have backgrounds in network engineering. Its commercial model is either an upfront purchase or a monthly/annual fee per Bee plus fees for use of NetBeez’s server system. The company graduated from the Pittsburgh‑based AlphaLab accelerator and was founded in April. NetBeez is currently raising a seed round.
