  • Splice N Connect

    Led · Seed · Nov 2025

Splice N Connect is a Calgary-based startup offering a proprietary, non-invasive sensing device and software platform that continuously monitors splice points—responsible for over 55 % of failures in North America’s electrical grid. By delivering real-time insights, the system predicts faults, lowers maintenance costs, and enhances overall grid resilience. The technology targets utilities as well as renewable energy operators, downhole mining sites, and large industrial power users. Founded in 2023 out of Avatar Studio, the company is led by CEO and founder Taban Sabih. Recent achievements include winning Decentralized Energy Canada’s 2024 pitch competition and earning places in the CDL-Rockies and VentureLabs 2025 cohorts. With fresh capital, Splice N Connect is advancing product development, conducting field tests, and launching initial pilots ahead of broader commercialization. The company has secured $1.75 million in pre-seed commitments to date, with $1.2 million already invested by Avatar Leadership Fund and the remainder expected to close by Q1 2026.

  • CO2Brew

    Led · Seed · Jul 2024

CO2Brew is developing an industry-changing technology aimed at reducing breweries' costs and greenhouse gas emissions. The company plans to use its recent funding to build and operate a pilot with Cold Garden Beverage Company and to bring its first commercial unit to market. CO2Brew intends to extend its market presence across North America. The company closed an $800K pre-seed round to advance these plans, with a $250K lead investment from the Avatar Innovations Inc. Leadership Fund and participation from numerous Canadian angel investors. CO2Brew has received ecosystem validation, winning the Inventures 2024 “Earth Tech: Building Everything Better” pitch competition and being named a finalist for “Venture of the Year” in Foresight Canada’s 2024 Alberta Cleantech Awards. The funding round is described as the next chapter for the company as it scales pilot and commercial efforts.
