Led by CEO Justin Langseth, Zoomdata is an open-platform vendor of visual analytics solutions for big data. The company uses patented data sharpening and micro-query technologies to let business users visually consume data in seconds, even across billions of rows. Its Zoomdata Fusion product enables interactive analytics across disparate sources by blending real-time streams and historical data and unifying enterprise and cloud data. Zoomdata signed a strategic investment and technology development agreement with In-Q-Tel to extend the platform’s capabilities to meet Intelligence Community requirements. The agreement expands the company’s federal program—availability via GovCloud and C2S, federal pricing through SEWP, and development/delivery services via partners Deloitte, Northrop Grumman, and Unisys. Zoomdata is venture-backed by Accel, Columbus Nova Technology Partners, Comcast Ventures, Goldman Sachs, NEA, and Razor’s Edge; the size of the In-Q-Tel investment was not disclosed. Zoomdata provides business-intelligence dashboards that connect to modern and traditional data sources at scale without copying data, enabling visualization of very large datasets. The product supports Hadoop (Cloudera, Hortonworks), Elasticsearch, NoSQL and SQL sources. It competes with legacy BI tools like IBM Cognos and SAP BusinessObjects as well as more modern vendors such as Tableau and Qlik, but was built for big-data sources from the start. The company reported 11x year‑over‑year growth and 35 customers, and has partnerships with Cisco, Cloudera, Hortonworks, IBM and Microsoft. Management says the new funding will be used to speed the product roadmap and add features requested by strategic customers. Financially, Zoomdata has raised just over $47 million to date after the $25 million Series C. Zoomdata builds a business-intelligence and data-visualization platform natively designed for modern data platforms including Hadoop, Spark and NoSQL. Its product surfaces streaming and historical views of data with a video-like scrubbing interface to watch graphs transform over time. The tools are positioned to make modern platforms accessible to less technical users once ETL and machine-learning work has been completed. Zoomdata cites partnerships with Cloudera and Databricks and has been used by customers such as PlaceIQ for live mobile-location visualizations. The two-year-old, Reston, VA.–based company has about 50 employees and roughly 20 customers, one contract reportedly worth over $10M and others at least in the six figures. Management plans to use new capital to expand sales and marketing, including hiring a chief marketing officer and a team of salespeople. Zoomdata builds a data-visualization platform that connects and analyzes both historical and real-time (streaming) data. Its interface, designed with the iPad in mind, allows filtering and animated 'in motion' views, including rewinding and forwarding graphs. Users can change visualizations, drill down, drag-and-drop different data into a data palette, bookmark views, and take screenshots to share. Zoomdata is one of the first vendors specifically designed for Cloudera Impala and is certified on Cloudera’s Hadoop distribution. The company positions itself as a non-ETL provider focused on streaming data, differentiating from legacy BI vendors. Zoomdata raised $4.1 million in a Series A to support its product and growth. Zoomdata is a Reston, Va.-based big data visualization startup led by founder and CEO Justin Langseth. It offers a next-generation real-time big data visualization application that helps business analysts combine multiple data streams and share work using real-time interactive visualizations on tablet, web, and TV devices. The product is currently deployed in beta at several top-tier customers. The company raised $1.1M in seed funding from advisor Hemang Gadhia and other angel and institutional investors. Zoomdata intends to use the capital to expand its seven-person engineering team to drive product innovation. The company currently employs 12 people.
