Shipwell provides a cloud-based supply chain management platform used by shippers, 3PLs and carriers to manage freight operations. The company recently added parcel shipping alongside its traditional freight shipping modes and is now FedEx Compatible, enabling users to manage parcel and freight in one platform. Led by CEO and cofounder Greg Price and President and cofounder Jason Traff, Shipwell aims to expand its product capabilities across shipping modes. The company raised a $35M Series B and has raised $47M in total funding to date. Proceeds from the round will be used to expand employee headcount and open a second office in Chicago in 2020. Shipwell is headquartered in Austin, Texas. Shipwell operates a digital marketplace that connects shippers with freight carriers and provides online tools to manage shipments, fleets, and cargo. The platform coordinates freight, pays truckers, and monetizes via commissions on freight services and fees for its freight-management software. It targets small and mid-size businesses that spend $100 million or less per year on freight and the fragmented pool of small carriers that own only a few trucks. The founders began planning the business in 2016 and launched the service at the beginning of this year. Shipwell positions its offering as a way to bring Amazon-like proprietary logistics toolkits to retailers, landlords and other partners, with potential tie-ins in construction and real estate. Its focus on the long tail of shippers and smaller fleets is aimed at addressing inefficiencies in the large but fragmented U.S. trucking market.
