Micron Agritech is a Dublin-based spin-out of TU Dublin that develops the Micron Kit, a rapid AI-powered onsite test enabling vets to detect parasites and recommend dosing based on results. The kit aims to replace multi-day laboratory sample testing (which can take up to five days) and cut routine, preventative worming that drives resistance to antiparasitic drugs. By targeting unnecessary treatments, the company says its technology will reduce medication resistance, lower costs for farmers, and improve animal health and productivity. Micron was founded in 2019 by Daniel Izquierdo, Tara McElligott and Sean Smith. The startup plans to expand access to vets beginning with penetration across the Irish and UK markets and eventual wider global rollout. Financially, the company has raised a total of €5 million since inception. Micron Agritech is an agtech spin-out from Technological University Dublin developing Micron Kit, a portable device and mobile app to detect parasitic infections in cattle, sheep and horses. The device images prepared fecal samples and uses machine learning built by the company to identify parasites and quantify burden, delivering rapid on-site results. Micron Kit aims to replace slow lab-based testing (typically a 3–5 day turnaround) and enable targeted treatment instead of routine preventative medication. The company was founded just last year by a team with an average age of 24 and plans to bring the Micron Kit to market. Micron raised €500,000 in a seed round to fund commercialisation and go-to-market activities. The product is positioned to reduce farmer testing and medication costs while addressing increasing parasite resistance and regulatory pressure to cut medication use.
