- Foodforecast
Participated · Equity · Sep 2024
Founded in 2018, Cologne-based Foodforecast has built software that uses artificial-intelligence models to predict demand for ultra-fresh foods with very short shelf lives. The platform integrates directly into customers’ ordering, production, and replenishment workflows, updating forecasts multiple times per day and automating more than 90 % of previously manual planning. Deployed in several thousand European stores since its 2022 commercial launch, the solution has helped prevent over 8,800 tons of food waste while increasing sales by up to 11 % and reducing waste by up to 30 %. These measurable results illustrate both economic and environmental benefits, aligning the company with EU sustainability goals. With new capital in hand, Foodforecast plans to accelerate international expansion, enhance its AI capabilities, and broaden enterprise adoption across retail, food-service, and bakery segments. The company positions itself as a scalable, easy-to-implement tool for tackling structural inefficiencies in ultra-fresh food supply chains.
- EV Biotech
Participated · Seed · Jun 2023
EV Biotech develops a technology platform that accelerates industrial microbial fermentation by combining computational methods, data-driven AI models, and laboratory testing. The platform connects strain design and testing with in-house industrial-scale bioprocess models and digital twins to predict profitability and guide R&D decisions. Its approach has been commercially tested across seven client projects covering alternative proteins, small molecules, and bioplastics. The company has developed an in-house bioplastic-producing microbial chassis that can accumulate up to 80% of its biomass and plans to pilot that chassis this year with a target market entry within three years. EV Biotech reports a roughly 70% time-to-market improvement and says modelling-guided experiments save at least 60% of time and cost versus traditional trial-and-error methods. The recent €4.5M seed investment will be used to improve existing technology, implement client feedback, continue in-house microorganism development, and pilot plug-and-play systems for multiple markets.
- Chromologics
Led · Seed · Mar 2023
Chromologics is a 2017 spin-out from the Technical University of Denmark that has built a precision fermentation platform to manufacture natural food colours. Its flagship product, Natu.Red, is designed to be a sustainable, scalable and cost-effective alternative to synthetic and extract-based reds and is compatible with kosher, halal and vegan diets. To date, the company has run trials with more than 90 food manufacturers across Europe and the United States, generating application data and early commercial interest. Chromologics plans to use its newest capital to complete regulatory submissions for Natu.Red with both the European Food Safety Authority and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. Novo Holdings and the Export and Investment Fund of Denmark (EIFO) have backed the company since 2020. Including the latest raise, Chromologics has secured nearly €20 million in total funding.
- NS/TX Industries
Participated · Seed · Feb 2023
NS/TX Industries (doing business as NEW/SCHOOL FOODS) operates a vertically integrated manufacturing platform built around a proprietary, tuneable scaffolding and texturization technology for meat and seafood analogues. The platform supports production of whole-cut formats (steaks, filets), non whole-cut formats (burgers, strips), and a wide range of species analogues with tuneable texture, flavor delivery systems, and cleaner-label nutrition. The company operates a 28,000 sq. ft. facility in Toronto and launched a V1 commercial assembly line in late 2024, achieving more than a 10x reduction in production costs through extensive trials, equipment upgrades, digital QA, and process breakthroughs. Those developments generated new patents and proprietary equipment designs. NS/TX provides production, R&D, and co-manufacturing services and delivers consumer- and restaurant-facing products via its NEW/SCHOOL FOODS brand. The company has raised over $30 million USD in private and government funding and is now scaling via construction of an automated V2 Assembly Line to increase capacity by over 10x and further lower costs.
- Basecamp Research
Participated · Series A · Dec 2022
Basecamp Research builds and trains EDEN, a family of evolutionary AI models powered by BaseData™, the world’s largest privately collected genomics dataset spanning over 10 trillion DNA tokens from more than one million newly discovered species. Working with NVIDIA, the company has created the first AI models shown to design enzymes capable of large, precise gene insertions in the human genome, overcoming key limitations of CRISPR-based editing. In laboratory studies, these models generated active insertion proteins for 100% of tested disease-relevant sites and produced CAR-T cells that achieved more than 90% tumour-cell clearance. The same platform also designed antimicrobial peptides with a 97% success rate against multidrug-resistant pathogens. Computation for the largest model consumed 1.95 × 10²⁴ FLOPS on 1,008 NVIDIA Hopper GPUs, placing it among the most compute-intensive biological models reported. Leveraging these capabilities, Basecamp is advancing an internal pipeline of cell and gene therapies targeting cancer and inherited diseases while collaborating with biopharma and academic partners worldwide. The company’s recent financing activity indicates continued investment in scaling R&D and preparing for a forthcoming Series C round.
