One of the Brooklyn Partners will strengthen the executive team to bridge the next stage of the venture. The associates of the Brooklyn team are able to temporarily fill the gaps in several crucial operational areas while professionalizing the company. From funding, finance, legal, business development and online marketing, to data analysis and IT-architecture. Next to that building long-term relationships and introducing the company to work with the international leaders of its industry is key and Brooklyn will assure the right contacts and partnerships. The companies Brooklyn Ventures participates in are preferably B2B or B2BC focused, have a positive impact on society in general and a strong desire to scale internationally. Brooklyn Ventures, founded in 2011, is led and owned by three partners. They share the entrepreneurial drive to make a difference with their energy, leadership, focus on execution and international business development skills. The partners are serial entrepreneurs and had their fair share of failures and successes. Over time they gained the experience and knowledge to boost other companies by steering them past the scale-up pitfalls and create a proper eco-system for success. During the past years, the partners have gathered a full team of specialists around them as associates. These specialists are deployed in the portfolio- and other companies within the eco-system to multiply their experience. The Brooklyn Ventures HQ is located The Netherlands and its portfolio companies have offices in Johannesburg, Dubai, Lagos, London, Houston, New Delhi and Kuala Lumpur.

SoSocio’s core product is an HTML5 Facebook Photobook application that enables users to create digital and printed photo books and cards from social-network photos across desktops, smartphones and tablets. The service sells softcover and hardcover photo books (€12.95 and €16.95 respectively) and reports roughly a thousand books being created per day. It also sells its tools as a white-label service to traditional print companies and offers the app to brands for customer engagement, which the company says drives a higher proportion of printed orders. The startup plans international expansion to Germany, France, the U.K., Italy and Spain first, with a U.S. push planned later as the app gains some traction there. As user numbers grow, SoSocio intends to increase in-app advertising as an additional monetization channel. The company will use the latest funding to fuel this international expansion and to support an upcoming app update with expanded print support.
