Memic builds the Hominis robotic-assisted surgical system, designed so surgeons control robotic arms from a central console and the instruments replicate surgeons’ arm motions. The Hominis has FDA marketing authorization for single-site, natural-orifice laparoscopic-assisted transvaginal benign surgical procedures, including benign hysterectomy. The device does not perform surgery autonomously; surgeons remain in control. Memic closed a $96M Series D and plans to use the proceeds to commercialize the platform in the U.S. and expand marketing and sales outside the U.S. According to Crunchbase the company previously raised a total of $31.8M, including about $12.5M raised through OurCrowd. The company is exploring additional procedures where a system like Hominis could be beneficial as it ramps commercialization.

The Hominis system received De Novo marketing authorization from the U.S. FDA in February 2021 for single-site, natural-orifice laparoscopic-assisted transvaginal benign surgical procedures, including benign hysterectomy. Memic plans to commercialize Hominis in the U.S. and potentially other countries, and to expand marketing and sales efforts outside the U.S. The company will also continue R&D to expand its product portfolio and scale up manufacturing.
