Mountain View-based NextSense is developing Smartbuds, the first fully wireless consumer earbuds equipped with clinically accurate in-ear EEG sensors. The device pairs continuous brain-wave monitoring with adaptive algorithms that trigger soundscapes proven to deepen slow-wave sleep by up to 50 % among early users. Beyond sleep, upcoming Relax and Focus modes will deliver brain-responsive audio that adjusts in real time to calmer or more attentive mental states. Smartbuds are scheduled to ship in Q4 2025 and are currently available for pre-order. The company plans to expand into research collaborations with universities and pharmaceutical companies and to introduce medical-grade applications in 2027.
