- Mottu
Led · Series B · Jun 2022
Mottu operates a motorcycle rental and last-mile delivery marketplace connecting restaurants, retailers, and e-commerce businesses with delivery couriers. Led by founder and CEO Rubens Zanelatto, the company controls operations end-to-end in more than 30 cities across Brazil and Mexico and established its own assembly line in Manaus. It serves 50,000 customers and offers an in-house assembled SKU, Mottu Sport, positioned as a fuel-efficient motorcycle in Latin America. Mottu plans to use the Series C proceeds to expand geographies, improve operational efficiency, and enhance customer experience. The company is also entering the mobility market focused on commuters who frequently use low-quality public transportation in Brazil and Mexico. Its model combines vehicle assembly, rental, and a delivery marketplace to support last-mile logistics for restaurants, retailers, and e-commerce. Mottu operates a fleet of motorcycles rented to independent couriers and provides complementary services including credit, insurance, maintenance, 24-hour support and a driving school. The company started operations in early 2020 with a fleet of 200 motorcycles in São Paulo and grew to 1,000 by the end of that year. By the end of 2021 Mottu reported $10 million in ARR after growing ARR 5x that year, having reached $2 million ARR in its first year. Today it operates in eight Brazilian cities and Mexico City with a fleet of 10,000 motorcycles and a headcount of about 400. Customers pay a weekly rental fee that amounts to roughly $150 per month, and the company reports zero delinquency rates to date. Mottu says it helps couriers who have little or bad credit access work opportunities and aims to expand both its fleet and technology platform.
- Duffel
Participated · Equity · Aug 2018
Duffel builds a modern API platform that lets travel agencies plug directly into airlines' reservation systems to pull real-time flight offers, make bookings, access live seat availability and buy extras. Its target customers are digital and mobile app-based travel agencies that want faster, simpler integrations than legacy platforms allow. The company leverages the IATA New Distribution Capability (NDC) standard to surface live offers and ancillary services from major carriers. Duffel already lists airline partners including American Airlines, British Airways, Lufthansa Group, Aegean Airlines, Vueling and Iberia. Management says it will use new funding to hire more engineers and grow the broader team. Duffel plans geographic expansion across North America and Europe and has signaled future product expansion into trains and hotels. Duffel is a travel platform still operating in stealth mode. It plans to be a B2B offering that allows individual travel agents at large online travel management companies and tour operators to offer a seamless travel experience to their end customers. The product aims to make the booking experience simpler, faster and cheaper. Duffel recently raised $21.5M in a Series A. The $21.5M Series A came from Benchmark. No other financial details or operating metrics were provided in the article. Duffel is a London-headquartered, Y Combinator-backed travel startup working on a new way to book travel online and aiming to deliver an end-to-end booking experience. The company is largely in stealth and has kept product details private while it develops its platform. Duffel was founded by Steve Domin, Tom Bates and Vincent Pastor; Steve and Tom are former early GoCardless employees and the team has notable fintech experience. The founders say they are building a platform from scratch to redefine travel bookings on web and mobile and to modernize the industry’s antiquated infrastructure. Duffel announced an investment round of $4.7 million and said the money will be used to expand its engineering team in London. The company is participating in Y Combinator’s S18 cohort.
