Overview

Deep Space Ventures is an early stage investor in great ideas and amazing leaders. The team has demonstrated a track record of engaging with talented leaders using innovative solutions to create value across a wide array of industries. The investment focus is primarily on markets where incredible innovation is taking place, the cost to operate a business is relatively low, and there is a lack of seed capital available relative to the early stage opportunities that exist. Some people call these markets "flyover cities" or "tier 2 and tier 3" startup ecosystems. We consider them to be the capital efficient markets where our capital and strategic value can go a long way to help a founding team achieve their goals. Current primary focus areas are B2B Software and Esports.

  • Quarterback

    Participated · Seed · May 2018

Quarterback offers a platform for creating gaming leagues and content driven by gamers and streamers rather than game publishers or existing streaming sites. Leagues on the platform can host daily challenges, give away prizes and compete against fan clubs devoted to other top players. The company positions itself to help streamers monetize their fan bases, own their channels, build game libraries and cultivate new talent while encouraging one-to-one interactions. Quarterback was founded by serial entrepreneur Jonathan Weinberg, who previously led Round Robin and held a leadership role at Spartonix. Financially, the company has just completed a $2.5 million seed raise led by Bitkraft Esports, with additional participation from Crest Capital Ventures, Deep Space Ventures, UpWest Labs and angel investors. The product is focused on tying top gamers more directly to their audiences and shifting revenue and control toward the creators themselves.

  • FanAI

    Participated · Equity · Feb 2018

FanAI builds big-data analytics that combine esports team data, social media and online content to model purchase behavior and lifestyle profiles of esports fans. The service is designed to help teams and leagues optimize sales of team and league paraphernalia and to give sponsors measurable ROI. FanAI already counts customers such as Cloud9, OpTic Gaming, LA Valiant, NYXL and Cav's Legion GC. The company raised $2.5 million in a new funding round led by Courtside Ventures with participation from multiple esports and venture investors. Courtside Ventures partner Deepen Parikh said the sponsorship ecosystem remains an enormous and untapped opportunity. Market data cited in the article notes esports fans were expected to spend about $3.64 in 2017, roughly one-fifth of traditional sports fans, underscoring the revenue growth FanAI seeks to unlock.

  • Meta SaaS

    Participated · Seed · May 2017

Meta SaaS provides software that analyzes a company’s SaaS subscriptions to show which tools are used and which are not, helping customers cancel unused products. The product is compared to offerings like Cardlife and Cleanshelf and focuses on managing “phantom IT.” Founded by Arlo Gilbert and Scott Hertel, Gilbert previously created the first VoIP platform for iOS (iCall) and Hertel worked in Dell’s e-commerce division. Meta SaaS supports 10,000 employees across six customers, including RetailMeNot, and manages millions of SaaS apps. The company targets mid-market and larger companies where license management drives meaningful financial impact. It differentiates from many early-stage competitors by not relying on third-party data sources such as Okta, allowing broader tracking than login-based approaches.
