  • Sahl

    Participated · Series A · Jun 2024

Sahl is an Egyptian fintech bill-payment platform founded in 2020 that lets users recharge prepaid cards and pay household utilities. It directly integrates with multiple government entities and major telecom operators, including the Egyptian Electricity Holding Co., the New Urban Communities Authority, Vodafone, WE, Orange, Etisalat, Petrotrade, and Cable Network Egypt. Since launch the startup says it serves over 12 million customers per month and 15 million households in Egypt. Sahl uses NFC technology to allow consumers to recharge prepaid cards from home and has expanded into B2B with a Services Gateway that aggregates bill payment services and an Acceptance solution for merchants. The company plans to improve existing offerings, develop new financial services, and form strategic alliances to enable new distribution channels, collaborative technology ventures, and co-marketing opportunities. After launching in the UAE, Sahl aims to strengthen its presence in Egypt and broaden its regional reach.

  • Nexta

    Led · Equity · Oct 2022

Nexta is developing a next-generation banking app and card that aggregates users’ existing payment cards to simplify transfers, cash-in methods, and spending tracking. The app will offer instant onboarding, card aggregation and budgeting/tracking at launch, with additional features added monthly or quarterly. Nexta obtained a provisional Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) license last year and must meet further requirements to secure a final agent-banking license; it will use a partner bank for settlements while powering its own cards and tech. The company was founded by Ahmed Hisham in 2021 and has limited its waitlist to website signups (Hisham declined to disclose the number of subscribers). Financially, Nexta raised a $3 million investment from state-owned eFinance Group and earlier announced a $2 million pre-seed round led by Disruptech in March; proceeds will fund launch preparations, hiring, and technology investment.
