CogniFiber is developing DeepLight, a programmable, trainable class of photonic processors that process data at the speed of light by routing signals through multi-core optical fibers. In company demos the Aurora photonic system executed 100 million tasks per second—about 1,000× the throughput of an NVIDIA 100A single network instance—while consuming roughly 180 watts. The startup projects systems capable of up to 50 exaflops with under 5 kilowatts of power by 2027 and says DeepLight can shrink football-field supercomputers to a few server racks while cutting costs, power use, and build time. The new funding will support completion of the first-generation processors and the ongoing development of a photonic supercomputer targeted for market entry in 2027. CogniFiber was founded in 2018, employs 13 people, and has raised $14 million to date including support from the Israel Innovation Authority. CogniFiber is a deep-technology company developing advanced in-fiber photonic processing systems. The company was co-founded by Dr. Eyal Cohen (CEO) and Professor Ze’ev Zalevsky (CTO) and was officially founded in 2018. Before founding the company, the co-founders spent years bringing the technology to life, including working within Intel’s Ingenuity Partner Program. CogniFiber is based in Rosh HaAin, Israel. The firm intends to use proceeds from its Series A to create and deliver a scalable product to market. The company raised $6M in a Series A round led by Chartered Group.
