  Superworm develops insect-derived proteins and biofuels using the “superworm” insect and proprietary selection and closed high-density breeding systems to increase production efficiency. Its process feeds organic waste to rapidly growing superworms that accumulate high-quality proteins and lipids. The company is building a circular recycling process that converts food residues and agricultural waste into alternative proteins and biofuels. Founded in 2023, Superworm has raised a total of ¥410 million to date, including a ¥280 million Pre-Series A and a roughly ¥100 million seed round last year. The Pre-Series A proceeds will be used to expand production facilities, strengthen R&D capabilities, and accelerate demonstration experiments toward commercialization. Superworm aims to become Japan’s leading company in the industrial use of insect biomass and is accelerating its transition to full-scale commercialization. Superworm develops and commercializes insect-derived products—primarily superworm-derived protein powder—alongside biofuels and organic fertilizers. The company emphasizes cost-competitive production and decarbonization benefits from its breeding approach. It plans to scale an efficient breeding process, strengthen joint research with companies and universities, and pursue genome-editing research to raise protein content. Superworm is actively hiring for R&D and commercial roles to build its organization and operations. The company was founded in May 2023 and is based in Saito, Miyazaki Prefecture. Financially, it has completed a seed financing to support product development and scaling.
