- Weaver.build
Participated · Seed · Mar 2022
Weaver is a London-based marketplace and SaaS platform that matches homeowners and architects planning major home renovations with vetted contractors using an algorithm. The product facilitates quote gathering, price comparison, messaging, document exchange and on-site meeting scheduling to centralize the contract negotiation and bidding process. Contractors are manually vetted and subject to ongoing checks; Weaver also takes a troubleshooting role during builds and plans to add fully insured escrow payments to reduce contractor bankruptcy risk. The startup has processed over $120 million of construction to date, saw orders grow 2.6x in 2021 versus 2020, and has around 400 contractor companies, 300 architect firms and ~900 homeowner users. Its business model includes a contractor success fee, a tiered homeowner access fee (with exemptions when an architect manages pricing) and referral fees from renovation loan providers. With new funding the company plans to expand across the U.K., transition to a mobile-first product, offer faster payments, and develop intelligent renovation pricing and machine-learning budgeting tools, with eventual plans to expand to Germany and the U.S.
- Obie
Participated · Equity · May 2020
Obie.ai is a Hamilton-based startup that expanded its offices to San Jose, California earlier this year. In February 2020 the company raised C$1 million in a funding round led by High Park Angels and including Dash40, Enterprise Fund, Sherpa Capital, Conconi Growth Partners and others. The company used part of the funding to accelerate the launch of Obie Access, an AI-powered knowledge base designed specifically for startups. Obie Access leverages AI to pull information out of silos, answer employee queries, and includes a redesigned knowledge editor with a Slack-first approach. The product was launched in April. Obie.ai is a The Forge alumnus and said the funding will help it continue growing its team in Hamilton and abroad with support from The Forge, Innovation Factory and its advisors.
