    Led · Equity · Jan 2022

Workathlon is a Greek-British, Techstars-backed HRTech startup building a hospitality-specific hiring and training marketplace connecting candidates with hotels, yachts, cruise ships and travel agencies. The platform combines NLP and a hybrid AI/hard-coded approach to suggest matches, with ML used mainly on the suggestion side while marketplace size and engagement remain the core focus. Its MVP has produced qualitatively positive early results, and the company reports over 60,000 candidates and more than 400 employer customers, with plans to triple those numbers by the end of 2022. Workathlon plans to expand its presence in Central and Eastern Europe and will use new funds for product development, adding ML features and EdTech-style training to improve candidate training opportunities. The team emphasizes industry-specific challenges—seasonality, high turnover and skill shortages—and positions the product to help employers attract, source, nurture and train talent amid rapid hotel and travel-sector growth.

ProductLead plans to use the new funding to grow its team, accelerate product development and push into foreign markets, notably the CEE region, DACH and the Nordics. The firm emphasizes high-volume, high-quality creative production through technology and automation. CEO Mihai Bocai said the round will speed up growth, help onboard customers across key industries and strengthen the company’s value proposition ahead of a Series A. The company is based in Romania.
