- Terradot
Participated · Series A · Dec 2024
Terradot develops and deploys enhanced rock weathering (ERW) to remove CO₂ by spreading finely ground rock on agricultural land and building MRV tools and a digital platform to scale the approach. The company has run scaled pilots in Brazil, spreading over 48,000 tons of rock across 1,800 hectares and reporting promising early results on tropical weathering rates. Terradot has sold nearly 300,000 tonnes of CO₂ removal through signed agreements, including a 90,000-tonne, $27M purchase facilitated by Frontier and a separate 200,000-tonne purchase by Google for 2029 and beyond. The startup is partnering with EMBRAPA and Brazilian industry, government, and academic partners to develop scalable ERW frameworks and leverage local agricultural and quarry proximity. It is building MRV capabilities using soil-core measurements, reactive transport models, geostatistics, and watershed-level measurements to enable high-quality, lower-cost quantification at scale. The founding science and operations team is drawn from Stanford and national labs, and the company intends to commercialize ERW at gigaton scale within the decade.
- OpenDeFi
Participated · Equity · Nov 2020
OpenDeFi, powered by OroPocket, is building a protocol that brings tangible assets onto blockchains by issuing fully insured, custodian-held tokens backed 1:1 by physical commodities. Its live pilot already supports tokenized gold and silver, and users can stake these tokens to earn yield, obtain flash loans, swap without slippage, or spend them in real time via asset-backed cards. Because the assets are bridged across chains, OpenDeFi aims to unlock cross-chain liquidity and broader financial inclusion. The startup has struck technical and distribution partnerships with Matic, Tezos, UniLend, Frontier, Rarestone Capital, and others. Looking ahead, it will launch ORO tokens through an Initial DEX Offering (IDO) on 11 November 2020 to widen community ownership and bootstrap network incentives. Financially, OpenDeFi closed a $1 million private sale in October 2020, and its upcoming Uniswap listing targets an initial market cap under $250,000 to mitigate early-stage volatility.
- CreateTrips
Participated · Seed · Jun 2014
CreateTrips is a mobile trip-planning platform that focuses on user-generated travel guide content called TravelBooks, which include an offline maps feature. Travel bloggers and travel companies can create, brand and sell TravelBooks (prices start at €3.59; creators may give them away for free without the offline map). The app also lets travelers build itineraries and access chosen information offline to avoid data-roaming costs. The company provides bloggers with branded author profiles, promotional widgets and links to their blogs and social channels to help monetize their audiences. CreateTrips launched initially in New Zealand in December, expanded into additional markets in April and May, had been available in 18 countries for months, and has now opened the app to global users. The active user base is described as numbering in the “tens of thousands,” and prior to the seed round the founder had been bootstrapping the business.
