- RenalGuard Solutions
Participated · Series A · Mar 2017
RenalGuard Solutions markets the RenalGuard platform and develops medical technologies for the cardiac and vascular markets. The company has launched Reprieve Cardiovascular, led by CEO Jim Dillon, to advance Guided Diuretic Therapy for patients with acute decompensated heart failure (ADHF). Reprieve's Guided Diuretic Therapy is intended to enable precise and predictable management of fluid levels in fluid-overloaded heart failure patients and to increase diuretic efficiency. The therapy is described as having potential to speed decongestion while protecting core organ function, shorten hospital stays, reduce readmissions, and improve symptoms such as shortness of breath, ascites, and swelling. Financially, RenalGuard completed a $7M financing announced in September 2018. The round was led by Abiomed with participation from existing investors. RenalGuard Solutions develops the RenalGuard system, designed to protect patients from acute kidney injury (AKI) including contrast-induced AKI by measuring urine output and automatically infusing hydration fluid. The company reports investigator-sponsored studies in Europe that demonstrated RenalGuard’s effectiveness at preventing CI-AKI in at-risk patients. RenalGuard is CE-marked and is sold in Europe and certain countries worldwide via a network of distributors. RenalGuard Solutions is led by Chairman Ethan Benovitz and is conducting the CIN-RG pivotal study in the United States to support a planned Premarket Approval filing with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. The company plans to use new funding to complete its ongoing pivotal trial by year-end to support U.S. marketing approval in 2018, extend marketing and sales activities in Europe and other regions, and expand R&D into additional clinical indications. The device and ongoing trial position the company for regulatory progress and broader commercial expansion where the technology is available.
- MedyMatch Technology
Participated · Seed · Mar 2016
MedyMatch Technology develops AI-powered "deep vision and advanced cognitive analytics" for medical imaging to help radiologists and emergency physicians recognise hard-to-spot abnormalities. The company is currently applying its technology to stroke diagnosis to help distinguish hemorrhagic from ischemic strokes so clinicians can choose correct treatments. MedyMatch says its algorithms compare billions of data points in images to provide an augmented second opinion for emergency-room physicians and radiologists. To further develop and market the technology, the Tel Aviv and Boston-based startup raised a $2 million seed round from private and institutional investors, including Genesis Capital Advisors and Exigent Alternative Capital. Management recently appointed Gene Saragnese as chairman and CEO; he previously led Philips Imaging Systems and held senior roles at GE Healthcare. CFO and co-founder Michael Rosenberg notes doctors misdiagnose stroke patients roughly 30% of the time, underscoring the clinical need MedyMatch targets.
- Zadara Storage
Led · Equity · Jul 2012
Zadara is an Irvine, CA-based provider of zero-risk enterprise cloud storage that combines hardware and patented software to deliver enterprise-class data storage and management via cloud. Led by CEO and co-founder Nelson Nahum, the company supports all protocols, data types and locations and offers full flexibility of choice for installations. Its usage-based pricing model means customers only pay for the storage they consume. Zadara’s services are available via public clouds including AWS, Google Cloud Platform and Azure, through managed service providers, data centers and colocation partners, and on premises in customer data centers. The company intends to use new funding to accelerate growth by expanding worldwide sales, dev-ops and engineering teams and its service provider partner channel, and to further develop its service offering. Financially, the latest round brings total equity raised to over $60 million. Zadara offers enterprise-class Storage-as-a-Service (STaaS) that lets enterprises and service providers buy enterprise block-and-file storage by the hour as its Virtual Private Storage Array (VPSA). Its patent-pending CloudFabric architecture delivers single-tenant performance and privacy and can be created, grown, and shrunk via software. Zadara’s offerings include off-premises STaaS (via public clouds and colocation) and on-premises solutions for service providers and enterprise private clouds, and can serve as primary or secondary (backup) storage. The company has partnerships with AWS, Dimension Data, Equinix and others, and its solutions are deployed at numerous household-name enterprises; it has won several industry product awards. Financially, Toshiba America Electronic Components invested $3 million in Zadara, bringing total capital raised to $10 million; the company said it will use the funds to expand sales, support and engineering teams. Zadara was founded in Israel in 2011, debuted its STaaS offering in 2012, maintains corporate offices in Irvine, CA, and a development center in Israel, and plans to work with Toshiba to integrate disk and SSD components with its storage software and introduce new STaaS products. Zadara Storage offers Virtual Private Storage Arrays (VPSAs) that provide customers greater control, speed, and security for their cloud storage. The company buys or rents hardware inside data centers operated by Amazon, Rackspace, and OpSource, and packages that storage with proprietary software. Zadara sells the combined hardware-plus-software as VPSAs that connect to customers' cloud servers. The company completed a $7 million first round of funding. Proceeds will be used to promote and increase awareness of its service. The round was led by Genesis Capital Advisors and Platinum Management.
