Prevtec Microbia is a Canadian biotechnology company developing biological products for the prevention of diseases in food animals. Its core products include swine E. coli vaccines Coliprotec F4 and the bivalent Coliprotec F4/F18, the latter receiving EU-wide marketing authorization in January 2017. Coliprotec F4 has been sold across Canada since 2007 and received EU marketing authorization in March 2015. The company reports a portfolio of technologies including three commercialized vaccines and aims to become a benchmark for biological products that can replace antibiotics in animals. Prevtec received a CAD $2.5 million investment from shareholders to support the launch of its second vaccine in the EU and to expand its European team to manage demand. Its partner and distributor Elanco plans to launch Coliprotec F4/F18 in May 2017, and Prevtec targets a European swine market of about 250 million heads annually. Prevtec Microbia is a Canadian biotechnology company developing biological products to prevent diseases in food animals, headquartered in Montreal, Quebec. Its first commercial product, Coliprotec-F4, a live oral swine E. coli vaccine, has been sold across Canada since 2008 and received a positive opinion from the European Committee for Medicinal Products for Veterinary Use in March 2015. The company is working to commercialize Coliprotec-F4 in Europe and to secure approval for another vaccine in Europe. Prevtec projects a target market of roughly 250 million animals per year and, under its five-year plan, aims to position itself in 12 countries on four continents with three products commercialized. Financially, the company secured a $7.2 million financing round that includes a $2.5 million equity investment from Investissement Québec to accelerate commercialization and strategic development. Prevtec Microbia develops technologies to improve animal health and is led by Michel Fortin, President and CEO. Its core commercial product is Coliprotec®F4, an E.coli vaccine for swine, which the company has sold in Canada since 2008 and which is also registered in Brazil and other countries. In January 2015 the European Committee for Medicinal Products for Veterinary Use issued a positive opinion recommending EU market authorization for Coliprotec®F4. Prevtec has secured a distribution agreement with Elanco for commercialization of Coliprotec®F4 in the European Union. The company completed a $4.7M financing and intends to use the proceeds to increase its commercial development efforts. Up to 36% of the financing was provided by current shareholders and the remaining 64% ($3.0M) was provided by a venture fund focused on animal health.
