- Dwarfs
Led · Series B · Nov 2022
Dwarfs buys and consolidates e‑commerce marketplace brands, operating as the only marketplace aggregator from the Benelux region. The company pursues acquisitions to build scale and centralize expertise and infrastructure across acquired brands. Management has a shortlist of targets with a combined turnover of approximately €100 million and aims to complete multiple deals quickly to reach a revenue tipping point. Dwarfs has previously used debt to fund acquisitions, closing a €30 million debt financing in September 2021 to buy four brands. Its strategy and growth plan were disrupted when a planned larger debt facility was derailed by the war in Ukraine. To date the company has raised €67.5 million in total capital. Dwarfs acquires and operates online consumer brands, primarily in lifestyle and home furnishings niches. The company uses external financing to fund acquisitions and growth, most recently securing debt capital to close multiple deals. It has targeted four brands—Slaapkalm, Calmzy, Litollo and Kristie’s Kitchen—covering weighted blankets, bedroom accessories, pregnancy pillows and kitchenware. Three of the four online stores currently operate only in the Netherlands, while the fourth already sells across multiple geographies. Dwarfs plans to help these niche brands expand internationally and multiply revenues through its know-how and scale. The company is also pursuing additional equity capital this month and is preparing a larger debt- and equity-based Series B raise.
- Immersive Gamebox
Led · Debt Financing · Nov 2022
Immersive Gamebox is an immersive entertainment platform that designs and develops interactive digital smart rooms called 'Gameboxes' for groups of two to six players. Its platform combines projection mapping, touch screens, motion tracking, surround sound and newly patented LiDAR and 3D motion tracking to create shared hyper-immersive experiences. The company has an in-house studio producing licensed and original IP, including a lifesize Angry Birds game and a Squid Game experience. IGB currently operates 15 locations across the US and Europe and is scaling rapidly through franchise deals. It has signed over $90 million in franchise deals to open 250 Gameboxes in EMEA over the next three years and plans to open 100 new locations globally by the end of 2023. The company intends to use recent financing to enable site expansion across North America and EMEA. Electric Gamebox builds hyper-immersive games delivered in interactive digital smart rooms called Gameboxes. The Gameboxes host two to six players and use projection mapping, touch screens, 3D motion tracking and surround sound without headsets. The company was co-founded by CEO Will Dean and CFO David Spindler and originated in Central London in October 2019; it now has locations in Essex, Manchester and Dallas. Electric Gamebox's in-house studio has produced six games with plans to release additional titles in 2021 and monthly thereafter. The company raised $25M in a Series A2 to accelerate expansion in the US and UK, targeting 100 new locations over the next two years and more than 1,000 locations by 2026. Brookfield will leverage its real estate portfolio to place Gamebox locations in malls and retail centers, and concessions are planned with Santikos Movie Theaters. Electronic Theatre builds immersive 'LightBox' Adventures—custom pods that host up to six simultaneous players and combine projection mapping, touch screens, motion tracking and surround sound. The product is sold as group entertainment in interactive digital rooms and launched its first unit on London’s Southbank last October. That initial unit has welcomed more than 3,500 people since opening. The company was co-founded by Will Dean, also a co-founder of Tough Mudder. Electronic Theatre raised £8.6 million in Series A funding to accelerate platform development and geographic expansion. Planned product and tech work includes video-capturing technology, voice recognition and HD sound, alongside wider roll-out plans. Immersive Games Lab is developing next-generation immersive group gaming experiences described as part indoor theme park, part video game, and part escape room. The company plans to sell its experiences in retail spaces as ticketed events and is currently prototyping its first product in a warehouse in North London. Founders include Will Dean (co-founder and chairman of Tough Mudder) and David Spindler. Immersive Games Lab intends to blend technology with in-person group activity to create captivating group experiences and to address excessive screen time and its mental-health impacts. The startup aims to launch its first experiences in London in early 2019. It has secured around £2.5 million in seed funding to support prototyping and early launch plans.
