  • Quench.ai

    Participated · Seed · Jul 2023

Quench.ai offers an AI learning coach that indexes an extensive library of educational videos from public and licensed course content and allows companies to index internal video resources. The product is designed to help users discover relevant content, upskill, and avoid choice paralysis, rabbit holes, and endless scrolling. The company is led by founder Husayn Kassai, who previously started and scaled Onfido. Quench.ai has a current team of 16 people and plans to expand headcount to support product and tech development as well as customer sales and support. Financially, the company announced a $5M Pre-Seed funding round to finance these growth plans. The startup is based in London, UK.

  • Scoodle

    Participated · Seed · Jun 2021

Scoodle is an online learning platform that connects students with tutors and is built for tutors by tutors. The platform charges 0% commission on bookings and uses a content-driven approach so tutors can demonstrate their knowledge before a booking. It recently launched a video platform to help students assess tutors. Scoodle plans to use its new funding to build out a network of tutor influencers. The company was founded in 2016 by Ismail Jeilani and is based in London. During the pandemic 70% of its bookings shifted online and it reports a 10x monthly growth rate. Scoodle is a content-led tutoring marketplace—described as Quora-meets-tutoring—that lets students post questions which tutors answer to build reputation and win bookings. Tutors create comprehensive profiles, share learning resources and accept bookings; the platform hosts thousands of tutors from institutions including the University of Oxford, the University of Cambridge and Imperial College London. The company has grown to 100,000 users across mobile and web and currently operates a 0% commission model on bookings. Instead of booking fees, Scoodle monetizes via subscriptions: tutors pay £10 per month for boosted listings (which the company says can secure up to 30x more enquiries) and there is a Scoodle Pro student tier for direct question access. Launched in late 2018, Scoodle is the first edtech company to join the University of Oxford’s accelerator, Oxford Foundry. Co-founder and CEO Ismail Jeilani, who previously worked at Google, says the product’s focus on tutor branding and unique content creates acquisition channels and long-term defensibility.
